President Dr. Arif Alvi’s five-year tenure ended on 8th sept 2023 in crisis-hit Pakistan.Dr. Arif Alvi was born in 1949 and completed his early schooling in Karachi. He completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree at De’ Montmorency College of Dentistry in Lahore and was recognized as the top graduate. He got a Master’s degree in Prosthodontics from the University of Michigan in 1975 and another one in Orthodontics from the University of Pacific, San Francisco in 1982.
He received the Diplomatic American Board of Orthodontists fellowship in 1995.Arif Alvi became the 13th President of Pakistan on September 9th, 2018.President Dr. Arif Alvi is a well-known physician in Dentistry and has had many experiences in that field. He was in charge of the Orthodontics department at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. He was also the president of the Pakistan Dental Association from 1997 to 2001. In addition, he served as the president of the Pakistan Association of Orthodontists in 2005. He was involved with the Asia Pacific Dental Federation from 2006 to 2007. Lastly, he was a councilor for the World Dental Federation from 2007 to 2013.
He worked really hard in the World Dental Federation and was able to make 20th March the World Oral Health Day. He is a author of a book, many theses, and articles. During Dr. Alvi’s presidency, he had a lot of problems like uncertainty in the government and conflicts between the military and civilian leaders. In April 2022, Khan was removed from his position through a vote of no confidence by parliament, and Sharif was chosen as the new Prime Minister in the same month. The government led by Sharif ended Parliament and resigned on August 9th.Considering his services to Pakistan, he started a plan for PIAIC when he was President in 2018.
This new project is being started to help grow academic, science, and market innovation in Blockchain, CNC (Cloud-Native Computing), and Artificial Intelligence. It is funded privately and aims to support education and charitable work. The project is being organized with the help of partnerships between businesses and organizations that make money, as well as those that don’t aim to make a profit. The main goal was to provide a way for women in Pakistan to access and receive high-quality technology training that is both affordable and available in various cities across the country. This led to the creation of the Technology Section for women and the Empowerment Section for women in the PIAIC. He thinks that the people of Pakistan are very important and focuses on improving their skills and knowledge.Dr. Arif Alvi, is a competent and highly educated personality. Without a doubt, he is a very sophisticated, civilized, cutured and knowledgeable person. He was very generous with youngsters during convocations, ceremonies and conferences in different universities and platforms. His many memorable moments with the youth will be cherished and always encouraging. He regards the citizens of Pakistan to be the most valuable asset and, thus, gives particular attention to the growth of human capital in the region.
